You could say that each of us has a unique combination of coloured wires within us. These wires are the ideas, forms, or tastes we are designed to connect with. Ultimately, they are our innate inner configuration. They are therefore also our inner compass.
If the world is a puzzle waiting to be assembled, with all its pieces mixed up and scattered, your colours are your guide: what leads you to the place reserved for you within that puzzle, the place where you fit perfectly. If we all had the same inner wiring, we would all do exactly the same thing, and there would be no puzzle to assemble. It would also lead us into a world of endless conflict that could not function. Conflict is resolved when everything fits into its rightful place.
Now, why is it important to recognise that we are designed to fit into a particular place? Because, to be happy, it is essential for your essence—your colours—to connect with the world, and to avoid following influences and trends that have nothing to do with them. Connect a green wire to a red one? It would not work, and you would become frustrated. Your frustration is how you recognise that you are not designed for that. And it would take considerable honesty with yourself to see it.
One of my first posts was: “Perhaps, deep down, we are simply beautiful, unique combinations of coloured lights.” The idea came to me at the time, but I did not really understand it or know whether it made sense within the teachings of the Course. It seemed to contradict the idea that “we are one” and, therefore, that “we are the same light.” Now I clearly understand that the idea had its place on this plane and in the resolution of its conflict.
If we picked up a puzzle piece and looked at its edges, we would see a unique combination of colours that allows it to fit where it belongs, where its colours connect perfectly with those of other pieces, and theirs with others still. And so on, until the entire puzzle is assembled.
What could make you happier than occupying the place where you belong and fit perfectly, whichever way you look at it?
