How do you attain salvation and forgive the world? By shifting your focus. If you focus on another person’s errors, you will never see, and without that vision, you will not find salvation either. Their errors are your own, and the ones that hurt you most to see are those most deeply rooted within you. You fiercely criticise and attack everything you fail to recognise in your own nature.
That is why, when you decide not to overlook another person’s errors, you are not overlooking them in yourself either. You condemn yourself without realising it. You loathe the reflection the mirror shows you. Except the other person is the mirror, and the reflection you see is your own.
And what happens when you begin to overlook another person’s errors, which amounts to forgiving the image you see in the mirror? Eventually, they seem so utterly absurd that you “die” laughing at them.
Laughter is a sign that you are beginning to see. You would walk through this world with a smile on your face because the “bad” would seem like a joke, while you would keep embracing the “good” just as you already do. You would be mad, yes, but completely happy in your madness. What does it matter?
And what would happen if, through intention, goodwill, and continued practice, you became able to overlook the errors you saw in others? You would see beauty, and not just any beauty, but overwhelming beauty. If you wanted to see that beauty, you would have no choice but to forgive the errors of the person who carries it.
Seeing that beauty means seeing what has truly been there all along, but which you were unable to see because you had focused on what was never really there. There are two perceptions, or pictures, before your eyes. Both are being shown to you simultaneously, and you are choosing which one you want to see.
When you see one of them, you understand nothing. Nothing makes sense. You cry blood, and your insides churn. Some people cannot bear so much suffering and, to protect themselves from it, they numb themselves, anaesthetise themselves, take drugs, and so on. They go so far that many turn to stone. They feel nothing, suffer nothing, and are completely blocked. They would need a lightning bolt or an epiphany to split that stone open and return to the world where they must choose again.
When you see the other picture, you feel alive because you see meaning, beauty, and fulfilment. You become one with what you see and embrace it with all your heart.
When you decide to correct your errors, you are choosing to correct your errors in perceiving and interpreting the reality before you. You do not seek to correct them to please anyone. You correct them because doing so makes you free and happy. You correct them largely for your own benefit because the other way of seeing was tearing you apart and making you deeply miserable.
Those who wish to can remain blind and asleep, but you will be alive because you will see and experience wonders.
Now imagine you have managed to overlook the errors you saw and, as a result, you see the picture that reveals beauty. Through whose eyes will you be looking at that picture? Through the eyes of Love. And what does Love do naturally, because it is its nature? Give Love. And what will happen within the other person when they receive that Love from you? Something that has long been dormant within them will awaken.
Just do not confuse overlooking someone’s errors with allowing them to dictate which way your will should blow, because those are two very different things.
“Salvation lies in how you choose to see” is a literal statement.
