Unity is the end of the ego. The ego does not want to be One. It wants to be heard, to be seen and adored. The ego wants to be two because it wants a servant to validate its existence.
Who could find peace when their life depends on something outside themselves that could be lost at any moment? Would Love allow servitude? Tell me how the slave can be loved when you suffocate them and reduce them to dust beneath your shoes. Tell me how the jester or the yes-man can be loved when they are mere echoes of your breath.
Two gives to receive its pet’s affection. Two gives so that others will prepare a throne for it to sit upon and look down with malice from on high. Two gives to be two instead of One.
And who is One? The one who does not see two. And who is One? The one who sees only One. One is shared purpose and will.
One is not a character or a disguise that draws chalk lines between the roles it and the other must play to be two. One laughs at every furrowed brow, at inverted triangles, at words that make no sound because they say nothing.
One is terrifying to two because it can see deep into its heart. One knows what the walls separating them are made of and laughs. One sees the walls that turn One into two and laughs.
One is life, two is death. One saves, two drags down. One is real, two is an illusion. Two wants to be happy while forgetting it is One, and One laughs. Two would like to be happy at One’s expense, and One laughs. One knows and two is ignorant. Two weeps over injustices One knows nothing of, and One laughs.
Is One the cynic? Which of them wants and does not want conflict at the same time? One looks to the right and sees nothing. One looks to the left and sees nothing. One looks within, and the entire universe exists there.
Two looks to the left and sees an enemy. Two looks to the right and sees another enemy. Two looks within and sees nothing. One is Love, two is fear. Who is the cynic? One or Two?
Legend has it that Two awoke when it remembered it was One.
